Juan Sebastián Bruno
Juan Sebastián Bruno (b. 1975, Puebla, México) is a graphic designer and visual artist. He studied photography with Guillermo Ueno (2000-2001) and attended private art lessons with Ernesto Ballesteros. In 2001, he was selected to participate in the Prodaltect Digital Art Prize exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. In 2010, he was awarded the Foster Catena Contemporary Photography Prize.
Among the highlights of his career, he participated in numerous group exhibitions at galleries and institutions such as Belleza y Felicidad, Boquitas Pintadas, Chez Vautier, Foster Catena, and Galería Ras (Barcelona) and Dot Fifty One (Miami). He was part of the collective Grupo Suscripción and together they participated in the Kuitca Visual Arts Program (2005) and in group exhibitions at Belleza y Felicidad, Goethe Institut Buenos Aires, Casa de las Américas (Spain), the Triennial of Puerto Rico, and Doque Gallery (Spain), among others.
Juan Sebastián Bruno's work regularly departs from industrial procedures, such as intervening images, reusing construction materials, or reproducing and decontextualizing design or architectural elements. He works in various mediums, such as installations, photography, silkscreen printing, and objects, and his pieces are always on the verge of abstraction, with a personal poetic that blends a design methodology with the free play of visual arts. The result is a body of work that takes the industrial to the realm of the useless and exalts the beauty of decontextualized forms.
